Taking the First Step

For some, the first step is leaving. For others, it's seeking safety with a trusted friend or family member. For me, it was therapy where I first was able to recognize and unpack the years of sexual abuse and domestic violence that started in childhood and followed me throughout my life. No matter what stage you of readiness you are in, please know you are not alone.

In the beginning...

It began when I was three years old. It wasn't my fault. I didn't ask for that kind of attention from my father. And it would be years later before I ever heard of "bad touch" and start to connect the dots. But by then, I was already fully groomed.

Where I'm at Today

I left my husband of 13 years on June 29th. Our last couples counseling session on July 8th was volatile and abusive, not just to me and our marriage, but to our therapist as well. That evening, he used my Amazon credit card to purchase items "for the business" and began telling mutual friends I was having an affair. I filed for a temporary restraining order the next day. His response? "You could have just asked for a divorce. This is just cruel."
